Jay William Grant, III,(57) passed away peacefully December 17, 2009 after a brief battle with cancer.
Jay was born in Orlando, Florida on March 17, 1952 to John William Grant, Jr. and Lillian Elizabeth Pugh, moving to Ormond Beach shortly thereafter and becoming a lifelong resident of the Daytona area.
Jay graduated from Seabreeze High School in 1970, attended the University of South Florida and graduated from DBCC. He was a talented artist, winning several awards for his work. Jay had a lifelong passion for sailing. He was a skilled yachtsman, designing and constructing his own sailboats, and won several racing competitions. He also enjoyed painting and drawing, surfing, astronomy, listening to music, playing guitar, and taking long walks.
He was predeceased by his parents and is survived by his sister, Margaret (Richard) Dukes of Newberry, Florida his niece, April (Neil) Libby of Wesley Chapel, his nephew, Wayne (Juli) Dukes of Orange Heights, three great-nephews and many dear friends.
His family will recieve friends at Haigh-Black Funeral Home 167 Vining Court in Ormond Beach, on Monday December 21, 2009 from Noon until 1 PM, followed by the Funeral service at 1 PM. Interment will be private.
