Eugene Lewis Durrwachter, 74, of Port Orange passed away Monday January 18, 2010 after an almost 8 year battle with complications resulting from a stroke.
Born October 10, 1935, he was the son of the late Herman and Margaret (Gulliver) Durrwachter. He was a United States Air Force Veteran of Vietnam and retired after 21 years of service. He then worked with the Volusia County Property Appraisers Office and retired after 24 years. He was also a reserve police officer with the Daytona Beach Police Department for 8 years.
He is survived by his wife Margaret, two daughters, Tina Martin, Port Orange and Toni Peterson, Ormond Beach; two grandchildren, Justin Martin and Jodi Weed. His beloved twin brother Edward and his wife Sally, Daytona Beach; two sisters, Peggy Ann Ault, Montoursville PA and Joan Lambert, Williamsport, PA; other siblings that preceded him Herman "Bud" Durrwachter Jr.; Florence "Flo" Price and Jane "Sissy" Son and his loving care giver, Tamara Thomas. He also left behind a large number of nieces and nephews that he loved like they were his own and a large extended family and friends.
A memorial service will be held in his honor 11:00 a.m. Monday January 25th at Haigh-Black Funeral Home, 167 Vining Court, Ormond Beach.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to either the American Heart Association or Halifax Humane Society.
