James Elias Learakos
1/24/1940 - 5/29/2010



James Elias Learakos who was born in Athens, Greece on January 24, 1940 and passed away May 29, 2010.  He was 70.  Demetrios Elias Learakos was his Greek birth name.  Jim was a humanitarian who through his many restaurants helped many families and non-profit organizations in need and was always happy to donate food for many great humanitarian causes and church functions.  While residing in Glen Ellyn, Illinois.  He received an honorary plaque for helping to raise money to build the Peace Museum in Chicago.  Jim was an avid reader of many authors but mostly loved to read the Bible and was well versed on many religious topics.  He loved soccer and also found the time in his busy life to as the owner of multiple restaurants to coach a grade school soccer team while living in Glen Ellyn.   Jim helped to build the Holy Apostles Greek Orthodox church located in Westchester, Illinois during the 1960''s and sat on the first board of the St. Athanasios Greek Orthodox Chapel in Gulf Shores, AL.  He was nicknamed the "Golden Boy" at a very young age for his innate ability to warm the hearts and the souls of so many.  Jim was one of the most giving and considerate children of God whose life and bright smile has touched the hearts of so many.  He will be deeply missed by his friends and family.  During his last years, Jim enjoyed helping to raise and play with his twins, Katherine and Alexander and he was the most happy and energetic person in the world who enjoyed loving on them and laughing with them.   He was the beloved husband of his second wife Dorothy Louise Learakos nicknamed Dora and their three and a half year old twins, Katherine Alexandra and Alexander Elias.   He is also survived by his first wife Adele Rottet, their three children, Rick, Jim and Nina and two grandchildren, Jason Alexander and Eric David. 

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church with Father Joseph Samman officiating.  Interment will follow at Daytona Memorial Park.  His family will receive friends today Wednesday from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Haigh-Black Funeral Home, 167 Vining Court, Ormond Beach where there will also be a Trisagion service at 7:00 p.m.

my dear dora and twins, i am so sorry for your loss. actually, jim's passing is a loss to everyone. he was a very kind and smart man. i will always remember our political banters..mostly one way..his way. lol. jim's(and your)friendship and kindness to my parents is one thing i most appreciate. i know they have missed you since you moved. i'm sorry i can't make it to florida for the service, but please know i will be thinking about you folks and pray the good Lord will help you and guide you through this very difficult time. ann
