Edwin J. Somerfeldt, 92, of Ormond Beach passed away June 27, 2010 after a long illness.  He was born in Dunkirk NY and later moved to Schenectady NY with his family. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was stationed in New Guinea and Australia.  After serving in the Army, je joined his father in the construction business in Schenectady.  In 1950 he moved to Florida with his wife and continued building homes in Ormond Beach, Daytona Beach and the south peninsula.

Mr. Somerfeldt is survived by his wife, Ruth; two sisters, Loretta Tys, Schenectady and Elaine Long, Jacksonville FL and many nieces and nephews.  He was a member of St. Brendan Catholic Church and served as an usher for many years.

A funeral mass will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Thursday at St. Brendan Catholic Church with Father John Ryan as celebrant.  Interment will be Tuesday July 7th at Florida National Cemetery.   His family will receive friends from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. Wednesday at Haigh-Black Funeral Home, 167 Vining Court, Ormond Beach.
