In Loving Memory
John Romano
- 7/26/2010

After a courageous year long battle with cancer, John Romano passed away at Hospice of Port Orange surrounded by the love of his family.  John moved with his family to Ormond Beach at the age of 6.

His stories of the pranks he and his brother and friends played on others and each other while growing up in Ormond Beach provided lots of entertainment at family get togethers.  John played football at Seabreeze and he married his favorite cheerleader, Judy.  After graduating he enlisted in the military serving in Washington D.C., Louisiana and as an interceptor of enemy transmissions in Greenland.  Upon his discharge, the love of the ocean and family brought him back to Ormond Beach where he designed and built his home and worked for the News Journal.  John was an avid sportsman who generously shared his passion for fishing and hunting with those around him.  A great joy of his was introducing his grandkids to these activities.  Whether he was shrimping in the river, surf fishing, fishing off-shore, duck hunting or dear hunting he was most at home outdoors. John was a regular at the Ormond bridge and at Howards Restaurant where they made his grits "just right".  John loved his family whole heartedly and enjoyed his friends immensely.  We will miss him greatly.

He is survived by his wife Judy;  his two children, John Romano and Katie Olivari; his brother, Andy Romano and his four grandchildren, Nick Romano, Madison Romano, Christina Olivari and Marisa Olivari.

In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Second Harvest Food Bank, 320 N. Beach St., Ormond Beach FL 32174.
